Four Years Ago, I Took a Shot I Didn’t Know I Could Make.
On December 13, 2020, I made an unexpected decision: I hit pause. What I thought would be a short break turned into a 15-month sabbatical. Actually, it was more of a soul-batical — a chance to reset, reflect, and soak it all in before deciding what was next.
On June 30, 2021, I launched UPSKLS (now Work Simplr) with nothing but a mission: to pay it forward, build with purpose and profit, and take on something I had absolutely no idea how to do.
Fast forward — it’s now four years later.
We just wrapped up Techstars (which was incredible, by the way!), and on June 30, I’ll step into my annual one-week 'soul-batical' — my "lost week" to read, walk, reset, and just... be better.
This year, as I reflect on the journey so far, I’m sharing something personal I’ve been working on since day one:
📘 Tee’d Off
It’s the story of a 51-year-old taking the risk of a lifetime — one swing at a time. A hole-by-hole reflection on the ups, downs, shanks, and surprises of building something meaningful later in life.
Each week, I’ll share a short, pithy, (hopefully funny and interesting) little moment from this 9-hole journey.
Because like a round of golf, the entrepreneurial ride is full of surprises — every hole is different, every shot counts.
